Master Chief Jason Eckard is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia and raised in Cave City, Arkansas, and graduated from Cave City High School in May 1990. He entered the U.S. Navy in November 1990, attending basic training at Recruit Training Command Orlando, Florida.

Master Chief Eckard has served on multiple platforms throughout his career, with his initial assignment to Fleet Logistics Support Squadron THREE ZERO (VRC 30), Naval Air Station North Island, California in April 1991. He reported to the Staff of Carrier Air Wing FIFTEEN, Naval Air Station Miramar, California in May 1993. During this tour he completed a Western Pacific/Arabian Gulf deployment onboard USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63). In May 1995, he reported onboard USS COWPENS (CG 63), Naval Station San Diego, California as Ship’s Secretary and Admin Leading Petty Officer. During this tour he completed his second Western Pacific/Arabian Gulf deployment.

Master Chief Eckard entered the Flag Writer program in 1997, and was subsequently assigned to United States Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska where he served as Flag Writer to the Director, Operations and Logistics Directorate. In July 1999 he reported to the Staff of Supreme Allied Command, Atlantic, Norfolk, Virginia as Flag Writer to the Assistant Chief of Staff, Plans and Policy. In October 2000, he returned to United States Strategic Command as Flag Writer to the Director, Combat Plans.

Master Chief Eckard left the Flag Writer community in January 2003 and reported to Sea Control Squadron THREE THREE (VS 33) Naval Air Station North Island, California as Admin Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. During this tour he completed the 2003 Western Pacific deployment, and 2005 around the world deployment, both onboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70). Upon the squadron’s disestablishment in July 2006, he reported to Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron FOUR (VQ 4) Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma as Admin Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. In May 2009 he reported to the Staff of Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group THREE as the N1 Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. He served as Command Master Chief of the “Blue Diamonds” of Strike Fighter Squadron ONE FOUR SIX until July 2012. In July 2012, Master Chief Eckard joined the Badmen of Carrier Air Wing FIVE as Command Master Chief in NAF Atsugi, Japan and deployed then on board USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73), now aboard USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76).

Master Chief Eckard’s professional education includes Yeoman “A” School, NTTC Meridian, Mississippi, the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 139), and the CMC/COB Capstone Course, Newport, Rhode Island. Master Chief Eckard also holds a Certification in Office Management from the U.S. Department of Labor, an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Coastline Community College, and Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Bellevue University.

In September 2014, Master Chief Eckard joined the Staff of Carrier Strike Group FIVE/Task Force SEVEN ZERO as Command Master Chief, forward deployed onboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73). In August 2015, the Staff of Carrier Strike Group FIVE/Task Force SEVEN ZERO hull swapped to USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76).

Master Chief Eckard has earned both the Enlisted Aviation and Surface Warfare Specialist qualifications. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
